    Angry trouble with illegal operation

For some reason I can not get into my control panel. All I get is a blue window telling me I preformed and illegal operation. Have scanned disk, done defrag, cleared temp. internet files and still can get the same message. Does anyone have any suggestions?????

What operating system are you running?
If you are not running XP which has a repair utility you probabily need to reformat and reinstall your OS
Unless you know what the corrupt file is ,find it the Windows system files
delete it then go to your OS disk and search fot the same file copy it and replace it in the same folder you deleted the corrupt file from
It's not an easy process but it can be done

In the "Illegal Operation" message box, there's normally a Details button. If you click on that, it should tell you the file that reported the error.

You should note though that the file that reported the error isn't necessarily the file that had the original issue - it's just the one that had the guts to say "stop a minute, I've got something wrong here" !

Still, it's a good place to start.

If you're on Windows 98, you can go to 'Start Menu' >> 'Run' and then type SFC - this is the System File Checker. It will trawl through all of your system files and tell you anything that's changed since the original Windows install. If you choose to repair all the issues, it will theoretically take you back to the original install. Note that this will normally undo a multitude of hotfixes and updates and, therefore, isn't always especially reliable or stable. Depends how annoying your current problem is, I guess.
