Volume Control Programme missing?
For some reason my volume control disapeared from the notification tray, ive tried going throught the control panel and on to audio, and then ticking the box to say display in notification tray but it wont. It says that the volume control programme isnt there and I should go to add/remove programmes.
Whilst i can control volume via the control pannel its was easy before, ive tried system restore and nothing happens. So i would like to know where i can get this programme or a similar one, or whether i need to do anything else.
Thanks

If you have a full version XP CD the following should work.
If your XP is OEM (pre-installed) you will need to review your restore options in the manual.
Windows cannot display the volume control on the taskbar because the Volume Control program has not been installed. To install it, use Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.
You need to copy the sndvol32.exe image from your commercial XP installation media (not a vendor-supplied "recovery" CD-ROM) to the system32 folder by performing the following steps:
1. Start a command session.
2. Navigate to the CD-ROM drive by typing: <cd drive>:
3. Navigate to the i386 folder by typing: cd i386
4. Expand the sndvol32.ex_ file by typing: expand -r sndvol32.ex_ %systemroot%\system32
e.g. If your CD drive is D: type the following: (note the space after sndvol32.ex_)
D:\I386>expand -r sndvol32.ex_ %systemroot%\system32

If you dont have the original cd, only the restore cd you can get the sndvol 32 for XP here. Someone accidentally listed it as a driver for HP. Handy for anyone missing the file. http://members.driverguide.com/drive...riverid=122407
