You need a converter program that changes your music files (probably in WAV or WMV format) to MP3 format. The one that I use is called BladeEnc and you can get it from www.download.com I think (or search google for 'BladeEnc MP3 encoder').
Let us know if that gives you what you need

[QUOTE=inigo21]i recently bought the new psp and would like to put music onto it howver the psp manual says that the music has to be in mp3 format and i've no idea how to change format can anyone help me?[/QUOTE)ok ok you need to get sonic stage 3.4 or higher sonic stage is a free program from www.connect.com that transfers your music files to atrac 3 plus so it can play music on your psp. or you can download windows media 10 from www.windowsmedia.com go to tools on the top left and choose options then go to rip music, on the tab and on the rip settings choose mp3. when you insert a cd and rip it to windows media player 10 it will be saved on your, my music on your desktop and search for the cd that you ripped and it should be in mp3 format and connect your psp with a usb to your computer and drag your desired music to psp/music file and it should now read it. or you can upgrade to version 2.70 to enable wma playback hope it worked out!!!!.
