    Adding Old E-mail with attatchments to existing E-mail files

    HI,
    Two months ago I had computer problems. The gentalman saved all my files to the sub drive old C:. He aslo set up outlook express 6 new, with out adding my old saved E-mail and attatchments. I keep these because they are a record of E-mails I sent people, as well as any files I sent them. It is also a recorded histroy of my Newsletter, and pictures others have sent me. I check around and did not find anything that will help do this without having to pay something. I do not want to over ride the existing E-mails, i just want to add them to the existing E-mails. How is this done.
    God Bless,
    Don Crosby jr.

    It really depends on what was done to the files?

    Can you find the files? Just need to Import them?

    Here are some ideas:

    We might have more ideas if we knew the current status of the files. i.e. location & accessability etc.

    Hi,
    Thank you for your prompt reply. The gentleman saved my E-mail files as DBX files on a CD-rewritable disk. So I have very easy access to them. Some files have attatchments, some do not. Hope this helps give you more information on the files. I will also check the site that you referenced.
    Thanks again for your help

    Here is a more detailed search.

    You are looking for Import Options.

    I will continue to search ... just thought I'd pass this on.

    Hi,
    I have done additional research into my problem. I have made some progress. When my computers hard drive he forgot to re-add the WINZIp extraction tool. I got a new one from WINZIP.com. I also downoaded a OE Reader 1.2 from snapfiles .com. I have old E-mail files on a Cd re-writable. For example I have a file Teri with E-mails, attatchments with pictures and word documents on them that I want to access. These programs give a lot of information in a lot of tid bits. What I need are the step by step a-z instructions that take me from inserting the disk into the computer with the E-mail files to where to go from there. I got the E-mail files saved as a file OLDEMAILS on my C Drive. This is where I will be extracting the files from. T want to when all done be able to access th eld E-mail with out loosing tte new E-mail. So your help in helping me learn this process would be much appreciated. Your previous help has been very helpful.
    God Bless,
    Don crosby Jr.

    This would be the simple awnser (as if such a thing existed):

    Copy the DBX files to an empty Windows folder.
    Right click, choose Properties and remove the Read Only attribute.
    Use OE's File | Import | Messages and import from an OE store directory
    As seen here: http://groups.google.com/group/micro...ae06392fbc7618

    So fill us in on why this does or does not work in your particular case.

    If zipping was a part of the process to save to disk then you can un-zip or extract to your hard drive folder.

    Dear Sirs,
    I have read through the posts and have some question that have some loose
    end tht need to be tied up. There are also some other areas where I need to fill in the gaps. This whole process is very new to me. As a result I am having troubles installing the Old E-mail files to my existing E-mail files. I have them stored on a CD-re-writable in DBX format. They are read only format. If I click and undo the read only format will this make a difference in downloading them to my E-mail files.

    I need a step by step process that allows me to take the DBX E-mail files from this disk and place them on my computer for viewing. The OE VIEW Icon on my desk top opens up to a WINZIP menu. So I assume I use this to access the E-mail files of interest. One thing that I am having problems with, is placing those E-mails files so this utility can access them and place them one to my computer for me to view. Once on my computer they would be imported or exported I assum.. I have th erough concept but am missing a few deails. Your help is greatly apprecaited

    God Bless,
    Donald Crosby Jr.

    Hi Donald,

    1. Create a new folder somewhere on your hard disk;
    2. Copy the DBX files from the CD into the new folder on the hard disk;
    3. Find the new files in Windows Explorer or My Computer, highlight them all, right-click them, select Properties and de-select the Read Only option;
    4. Go to Outlook Express and select Import > Messages from the File menu;
    5. Choose the option to import from Outlook Express (whichever is appropriate for the old version of Outlook Express that those messages where created in);
    6. Click Next and choose the option to import from a different Outlook Express store directory;
    7. Click Next and browse to the new folder on your hard disk.

    I don't know what happens after that as I don't have any messages to import on my PC but let us know if that helps
