    Windows Media Player Error

My computer was having some trouble a few weeks ago and I downloaded serveral spy-ware destroyers... (Hijack This, Spy-Bot, Adaware, Spy Doctor) And after running and ridding things that came up as spyware, I was strangely unable to view ANYTHING on Windows Media Player that involved internet connection. When I click on a download that should play in Media Player off a website, a message comes up saying:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because a network error occured. The server might not be avaiable. Verify that you are connected to the network and that your proxy settings are correct.

I went to the Network options and I think everything looks good.. But still, nothing plays on Media Player and I keep geting that same message...

    Help?

    Thanks,
    Chelsea.

What version of Media Player do you have installed?

I had Media Player 10, but when I tried to fix it with Owens help I uninstalled 10 and reinstalled 9. So now I'm running WMP v.9 but no luck still.

i think i am having the same problem.
yesterday i got rid of alot of spyware and now i also can't watch anything needing the internet connection. but also if i double click on a media file that i have on my computer the file does not play when WMP opens up and i have to then go to Open ---> file once in WMP to make it play.

does this happen to yours too "savestheday1703"?

did you ever fix the problem?

could this be linked to me changing my comp to a wireless connection as i also did that at the same time yesterday?
