I have just installed the new free version of ad-aware and i cannot figure out why i cannot get the updates. it says error retrieving updates. i checked configurations but maybe i'm missing something. does anyone know about this and can help!!!!

Do you have a firewall installed that may be blocking the connection to the Lavasoft server?

yes, and you are right, that firewall is the key to alot of potential problems.
