Crashes and Freezing problems with games

Ive checked other forums and found simular problems but not the same. Up untill a week or so ago everything was working great. Now when i play Call of Duty or the Battlefeild 2 demo it either crashes/restarts itself, or freezes. Ive got an error message a few of the times where it mensions nvoglnt.dll. I have updated my graphics, sound card, and motherboard drivers all in vain. Im running out ideas can anyone lend me a hand? Thank you.

BTW heres my specs if it will help

    AMD 3000 64
    2 gigs ddr 400
    eVGA 6800
    Gigabyte K8NS pro motherboard
    Creative labs Audigy 2 ZS
    widows XP SP2

Nvoglnt.dll is a file controlled by NVIDIA driver.

    Is this your card:

    http://www.bleedinedge.com/reviews/e...a_6800_01.html

Are you sure you have the latest driver?

Did you uninstall the old driver before updating?

Yes sir, that is indeed my video card, except i upgraded it with a NV Silencer. I downloaded the new 77.72 driver, but i just recently (today) went back to a more stable(?) 71.89. I even used a utility to clean out all of my old driver components and cab files. I keep testing my system with Call of Duty, and sure enough it freezes up with an error message about 3 minutes into the game. The first time it froze up on me, was when i was playing Call of Duty and i was banned from a server (for having a "bad name"), and istead of having the normal "you have been banned from this server" message it froze up. And hasent been the same sense. would a copy of my dxdiag help you at all??

I fully appriciate ANY and all suggestions
    thank you

Do you get the same nvoglnt.dll error?

    I assume that eVga's driver: 77.72

    http://www.evga.com/Support/Drivers/...s.asp?O=6&F=17

Is the same as nVidea's: 77.72

    http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_77.72.html

I also found this quote relating to a different game but to the same nvoglnt.dll

i dont know if you got this prob fixed but this might work...

first open two windows in c drive then type this in one of the address fields:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32

then in the other one type this in the address field:
    C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\mgagcc@hotmail.com\half-life\gldrv

now, in system32 look for the file labeled "nvoglnt.dll", without the "

    copy it

go to the Half-Life folder then paste it in the gldrv folder.
After that you will need to modify the file drvmap so make a copy first.
    In the file, type:
    Default Default
    gldrv/nvoglnt.dll OpenGL Driver
making that the only thing in the file, doing this will allow you to use OpenGL, the thing about steam is, it defaults to 3dfx so you have to manually change it.

    I hope that helps...

hmmm. Ive only recieved that error message once i belive, but before that i wouldnt get an error message it would just crash and burn. Now i still get error messages, and ill copy one for you. Now the game that i test my system on (call of duty) i belive only uses direct x instead of OpenGL, which kinda baffled me at first. I did a check on the net for nvoglnt.dll earlier and found it was OpenGL related. In any avent im gonna try that fix you listed above but for Call Of duty, and ill let you guys know what happend. thanks again.

Ive finally found a forum thread with my exact problem (i think), but the thread is old. Im not sure what to make of the solution though. Heres the thread, can some one make sense of this???

    That solution being:

    DarkJedi ____________________ Dec 22 2003, 16:18
I figured out the problem!!! Every time I install new drivers, I always uninstall the old drivers, reboot into SafeMode, then use DriverCleaner to get rid of everything else. Well I reformatted again this weekend and installed the newer drivers over the default XP ones, and I was able to play CoD for hours on end. So the new StarStorm drivers came out, so I did my usual thing of SafeMode and DriverCleaner, and within 5 minutes of playing CoD the exact same crash!! So I uninstalled the driver again, but this time just booted back into Windows as normal, then reinstalled the StarStorm drivers, and I was able to fix my problem, played CoD just fine after that. Go figure that a Third Party App would cause the problems!!!
All I see is that he uninstalled his video driver; did a normal boot & reinstalled.
(No driver cleaner; no safe mode.)

    Have you tried that?

Also seeing as you apparently have a .dmp file you might want to consider the following:

Go to start | search (type in) .dmp
Note the location of your latest .dmp file.

    Then:

    1) Download and install the
    Debugging Tools from Microsoft
    2) Download and install this
    debugwiz
    3) Open the Wiz & Browse to, or paste in the path to, your latest .dmp file.
    4) After the Wiz creates a Text document attach it back to this thread.

    KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000008e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
    happening.
