Re: Crashes and Freezing problems with games

I am not an expert reader of these logs but am somewhere on a learning curve. That being said that last crash was a hardware failure most likely involving some type of memory. However it was totally triggered by Norton's AV. (& or the AV responding to some threat.)

Often it helps to compare these logs so that if you recieve further dumps please post. Also for the future please change your dump log setting via:
Right click My Computer then click Properties then Advanced then Startup and Recovery | Settings:
    Write debugging information:
    change to Complete memory dump.

Also I want to keep this in mind from your original post:
The first time it froze up on me, was when i was playing Call of Duty and i was banned from a server (for having a "bad name"), and istead of having the normal "you have been banned from this server" message it froze up. And hasent been the same sense.
Also I don't know if you want to go as far as a BIOS update but just to let you know that I searched your boards' drivers/BIOS:
NVIDIA nForce 3 Beta:6.25 Windows XP 64 bit
    http://www.giga-byte.com/Motherboard...er_GA-K8NS.htm
    BIOS of GA-K8NS
    http://www.giga-byte.com/Motherboard...OS_GA-K8NS.htm

I would keep trying to play your game to force more dumps.
Since this is an online game I wouldn't suggest running without Norton but I also wonder why that last dump was so triggered.

Also are you running Norton Security Firewall? If so is the SP2 firewall turned off? Wondering if that server issue was saved by the firewall? Just thinking outloud.

Also if you have two sticks of memory try them in slots 1&3 rather than 1&2.

About 3 weeks ago i had installed more RAM to my system, and i hadnt had any troubles up untill last week. BUT, i just ran accross this thread http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic26384.html and it voila system fixed.....for now.
It turns out my motherboard does not like different ram manufactorers at one time. So i ditched my old generic 2x512 sticks and kept my newer 1 gigabyte stick of Corsair ram.
I totally appriciate you taking your time to help me out on this. Ill check back again if anything new should arrise!
    Thanks again

I didnt even see your new post up there when i replyed! so you came to the same conclution the thread i posted. I remeber reading a user rating on the new ram i had just bought from newegg.com, and one user had said somthing about how he had trouble at first getting this ram to work on his K8NS pro mb. Ive had issues with this mb for a while now. But thanks again man.

Hey man, i have a quick question that you may or may not know the answer to. Have you heard or read anywhere about Norton corrupting system restore points? Even if i wanted to, i cant get my comp to find any system restore point. I mean it can find these points but it has errors loading up the settings from older dates. Just curious.
    Thank you

    Conflicts are common yes:

    http://groups-beta.google.com/group/...restore&qt_g=1

To reset System Restore rt click My Computer then click Properties then System Restore:

    Turn off / Turn on

By doing so you will lose all past point but will reset for the future.

Also check some of the above linked threads for issues with various Norton utilities settings that you may need to change.
