I've got everything sorted now. I used a file in the XP Codec Pack to identify the various DLL files for the codecs. I then located and deleted these file. I expected to have to restore them either by reinstalling WMP or by using DLL files but that was not the case. Things are working spanking now. Thanks for your help D-A-L and Jephree!
