    Inbuilt Bluetooth Not Sending Files

I own an Acer Travelmate 3201 XMi.
It has inbuilt bluetooth but recently the bluetooth module has stopped being able to send files from the laptop to other devices.

It used to work, but no longer does. It says it is unable to create an FTP connection, network cable unplugged.
This confused me as the bluetooth is inbuilt. It is able to receive files, just not able to send them.

Are there any procedures I could take in order to overcome this
problem? I think it is the software that needs configuring as it can still receive files. Do I need to change some setting on my laptop or something?

If anyone could help me out, I'd be extremely greatful, many thanks,

    WillRoo

    Do you have SP2?

Acer recomends you unistall the Bluetooth Driver before installing SP2 and then reinstalling the driver.

    Technical FAQ's

Uninstall Bluetooth software before updating to Windows XP SP2

    Problem:

I want to update my MS Windows XP to Service Pack 2 and I read that there is a change in the bluetooth drivers. Do I need to change anything before updating to SP2?

    Solution:

The models shipped with Ambit or WNC bluetooth Module should use Windows XP SP2 native bluetooth driver. We recommend to uninstalled the bluetooth driver before upgrading the system to Windows XP SP2. Windows XP SP2 will install its native buletooth driver automatically during the upgrade process.

Service pack two was already installed with my laptop when it came to me. The same goes for the bluetooth. If I was to uninstall and reinstall the bluetooth software, how would I do this? Would it actually be any help if SP 2 was pre-installed?
    Many thanks,

When it stopped working...Did you install any new software or hardware?

BTW, I am looking for newer drivers for the Bluetooth device

No new software was installed. It was taken in for repair though (Mains socket was damaged). I have been wondering whether that affected it. But I think it is just the software that isn't right because otherwise it wouldn't be able to receive files would it? Thanks for looking for new drivers btw:-)

BTW, nt sure whether this'll be any help but on the add/remove programs list. Bluetooth software is called: WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software...

Well, the sad part is that there is not a single place I have the Widcomm drivers. One thread i found for a different computer maker suggested uninstalling the Widcomm drivers and use the native WinXP SP2 Bluetooth drivers.

You would do this by uninstalling the Widcomm software in Device Manager. Delete the Bluetooth device and then re-scan for Hardware changes.

When it finds the Bluetooth device, choose the Microsoft driver and the complete the install.

This will also eliminate the possibility that the repair damaged the circuits. And yes, any MB work has the potential to damage other components on the MB and since a radio Transciever has both a Send unit and a Receive unit, depending on the silicone's construction, you can wipe one out without hurting the other (however, you would loose Send and Receive because it has to confirm the file sent or was receive by sending info back to the origination point)

Ok, cool. Wasn't sure how to get to device manager. But while I was looking for it, I stumbled across information on the bluetooth module.

    The manufacturer: Broadcom corporation
    Firmware Revision: Version 105.105/74

Is this of any help? Thanks for all your help so far, it has been greatly appreciated.

The unfortunate part is that Broadcom does not distribute reference drivers. Acer doesnt list any bluetooth drivers...So I cant get any...

Have you found the device manager? If not, right click on my computer, click properties. Under the hardware tab you will see the first button at the top is Device Manager. Here is where you will make the hardware change.
