Re: i need helo
Startup Name: quicken
Process Name: waol.exe
Details: CoolWebSearch parasite variant
All your Event Viewer errors are indicating quicken.
Although Quicken is a valid program the above info can be varified via a HiJackThis log.
Do you use Quicken programs & are they set to start on boot?
You can find a hard drive diagnostic here:

I have moved your XP threads down here to join this all together.
Please help us in helping you by sticking to one thread for this issue.
I still suggest you post a hijack this log in the hijack this section.
The other thing to try is running the Samsung diagnostic on your hard drive.
Otherwise perhaps someone else might have an idea.

First off I would consider your warranty options: Most machines are covered for a year at least.
"It is an HP that is less than a year old, purchased July of '04. Video card is ATI Radeon9200MCE AGP. 512MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM and a Pentium 4 3GHZ w/Hyper Threading."
Did you ever try the Samsung diagnostic?
SHDIAG (Diagnostic for Old Drives) v1.25
This program is used to diagnose the disk when the SAMSUNG hard disk is suspected to have failures. It is strongly recommended to back up your data before using this program!
