cd-burning playback problems
i'm in desperate need of help.for the last few days, when i burn a cd(i always burn as data)it will say burn was successfull but when i try to play the disk, the light on the cd tray just stays busy and won't play.i've tried three different burning softwares(nero, cdburner xp,ashampoo)and higher quality disks, but the problem persists.this only started a few days ago.anyone have any any idea what's causing this,or how i can correct it without buying a new cd-burner?thanks in advance

Will the drive read any disks?
Your Operating System disk (for example)?
With a disk in drive go to My Computer & right click the drive. Can you explore or open the cd from here?
Also check settings via right clicking the drive then click properties then auto play.
Verify that all those programs arn't conflicting. I personally only use the XP CD wizard. Unless you have a specific need for a third party program they tend to cause conflicts.
Also check the Device Manager: RT click My Computer then click Manage then Device Manager or go to start/run/ devmgmt.msc for any "!"
As sometimes general IDE conflicts will show the symptom of a constant power-load on a DVD/CD drive you might also want to run a Check Disk on your hard drive via:
start > run > cmd
in the new window type chkdsk/f
when prompted to run on boot choose Y & reboot
this will check for & fix any disk errors.
Finally (& perhaps should have been firstly): Try a system restore to a date prior to your current problems.
Hope this helps.

my OS is xp sp2.no,i cant open or explore the disk from my computer,it just freezes when i try to open it or on occasion say the drive is empty when it's really not.yes, some of my disks will still play, but i cannot burn anymore, even using high quality cds.i sometimes get the error message"a flaw exists in the power calibration area".im beginning to think my burner is simply dying,i tried the check disk thing,no improvement though.device manager says the drive is functioning normally,i even tried updating driver, but it said there wasnt a better match then the driver i already have.does this sound like a dying burner to you?

"a flaw exists in the power calibration area"
Usually applies to a problem with the drive itself. Have you tried a cleaning disk & or blow it out with canned air.
What is the make & model of the drive?
Also: look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id especially of errors that seem to coincide with this drive.
