Windows Media Player Help
well im hoping this will be an easy problem fix
for some reason since this morning i haven't been able to open Windows Media Player files properly.
if i just double click on a file normally windows media player opens up and plays the file but at the moment all it is doing is opening windows media player and then does nothing.
for it to play the file i have to use the open button on the windows media player toolbar and do it that way. which is bloody annoying!!!
anyone know what could be wrong?

Have you updated your version of media player lately?
-
yep...
i think it is something to do with me installing XP Service pack 2. cos i did a system restore earlier back to when i had SP1 and it worked fine but i have now re-installed SP2 and it's gone dodgey again. i think it may have been something to do with a file called apti.sys but im not sure.
any ideas?
and please don't say go back to SP1.

atapi.sys?
Do you get errors for this?
If so what is the exact error?
What version of media player are you using?
Try to open a file & note the time.
Then: look in your Event viewer: Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id especially of errors that seem to coincide with this time & or issue.

i thought about just getting rid of media player but now i have found i can't even do that. for some reason the uninstall/rollback always "fails" so i am stuck with media player 10 and if i try to install media player 9 it just says command line error.
the only temporary soloution i can think of is changing my default player to winamp for now but i really want XP back to normal
jephree i tried looking for errors but there were noe

I would try to install WMP 10 on top of itself.
