anti-virus help
I have a Compaq Presario 5000 Windows Me
I am unable to install an anti-virus program.
I took the hard drive out & scanned it for viruses as a slave - clean
I put the hard drive back in, rechecked all anti-virus programs were uninstalled
ran spyware check with 3 programs - removed all traces
I installed Norton Anti-Virus 2005.
Clicking on the desktop icon wouldn't do anything. click on the program in the program list provided the same results. Norton shows in the taskbar.
I uninstalled Norton and install AVG v.7
Installed ok but sent the display setting into a whirl.
Viewing at 640x480 and can't adjust it higher.
Any thoughts as to why this is happening and what to do about it.

Did you reboot after removing NAV 2005, before installing AVG 7.0 ? It might be worth removign AVG 7.0, rebooting and then deleting everything in C:\Windows\Temp and C:\Program Files\Grisoft if it exists (assuming you don't have any other Grisoft security products). Reboot again after that. Try and adjust your display settings. If you can't adjust them, reboot into Safe Mode and see if you can see a fault in the Display Properties. Also, go into Device Manager at this point and remove any old display adapters or monitor drivers. Reboot into Windows normally and see if you can change the display settings again. Once you've got your display sorted, try installing AVG again.
I wouldn't recommend connecting to the Internet during the period that NAV or AVG are not installed.
Let us know if that helps

DJ, thank you for your reply:
Yes I rebooted after removing NAV 2005
I also deleted C:\Program Files\Grisoft
But then end result is:
don't know?
I tried multiple ways of re-installing the video driver and Compaq refused each time and then whamo it installed.
I re-installed AVG, updated it and everything is peachy.
Thankyou for your input
