    Date format in mail merge

I have a problem creating a mail merge from an excel document. The date field on the excel file is DD/MM/YY. When merged with the word document it shows as MM/DD/YY. Any help would be appreciated. I am running Office 2003 in Windows XP.

Is the Merge field you are inserting in Word in the format of DD/MM/YY when you choose it? You know on the left of the toolbar where you can select a merge field....

I'm not sure where you mean when you refer to toolbar, do you mean in Word or Excel? I can find any formats on the mail merge toolbar in Word.

Can you just give me a little more information on the steps you are taking to merge the info from Excel to Word?

Using a simple example I create a date field in DD/MM/YY format in an Excel Workbook. I create a Word document and using the Mail Merge wizard (tools, letters and mailings' mail merge) use the excel data as the source file and in "step 3 write letter" in "more items" I select the date field. I then complete the merge and the date format is in MM/DD/YYYY format on the merged Word document. I have tried entering the date in MM/DD/YYYY format in Excel but it is still in MM/DD/YYYY format when I merge in Word. The problem must be a Word setting or possibly a bug in the Office software??

    Hi,

Ok first can you go to Start > Control Panel > Date, Time, Language and Regional options > Change the format of numbers, dates and times

Make sure that this is set to English (United Kingdom)

OK.... Next look at this http://domino.lancs.ac.uk/pub/usghel...1?OpenDocument

Word takes it's date settings from Windows so you need to ensure that not only ALL the regional settings are correct but also that Office is installed as English(UK) as the default language.

Only other thing I can think of is to re-install Microsoft Office...I can't recreate it here....
