    Unhappy Outlook

Hi can anyone help - I use Outlook to manage all my e-mail etc. I use BT Yahoo as Internet provider but can't stand using the built in e-mail inbox thing as its crap. So when I got my pc(a long while ago) my mate must have diverted my e-mails to Outlook whihc i prefer.
So if i want to download all my e-mails I just go online, g into outlook and click on 'send/receive'.
Only all of a sudden when i do this now I get a mail delivery error which says the following when i look at the details:
'unable to connect to the server. (Account mail.btopenworld.com, POP3 server;localhost, errornumber 0x800ccc0e)

can anyone help with this? as without it I can't read my e-mails whihc are mounting up!
    cheers

    This link might help.

Sounds like either they changed your login routine or their server is down.

You should find a 'Service status' link to tell you whether they're having problems if you log into your BT Yahoo account: http://edit.europe.yahoo.com/config/....yahoo.com/%3f

Thanks for the advice - I've been onto the microsoft support site as suggested but it appears to be written in a foreign language! I get the gist that somehow I've not got the right ports connecting(?) but there do not appear to be clear instructions to fix it - least not for me anyway - can anyone translate?
(just wondering but I've very recently downloaded AVG anti virus - could that be a cause?)
Appreciate anyone putting it into english as I'm not sure how to start up the 'command prompt' etc
    cheers

Actually, Pummel, that Microsoft article isn't particularly relevant to you, despite the title and symptoms talking about Outlook. The advice that they give is for fixing the server end of the communications problem rather than what you can do on your home PC.

I would suggest logging on to the BT Yahoo web site (link above) and checking the status of their service. Alternatively, give their Technical Support helpdesk guys a call - they can probably sort it out for you really quickly.

I had a similar problem with our ISP at work and was deliberating over what could be wrong with our mail system for ages. When I phoned up the ISP, they immediately said "oh yeah, we changed the name of our server, that's why you're not getting your mail any more"! Could be something really simple like that, in which case the fix will only take a minute

Just had the prob 3/3/05. not sure what caused it.
I did a system restore and it part cured it. But, I found that my McAfee SpamKiller was not acting properly.
I uninstalled the SpamKiller and re-installed, and this has cured it.
    Hope this helps.
