Hi jephree and rokytnji...I'm getting the same error on my Ubuntu 8.10 setup and I'm running Java ver 6 update 11. The error msg on the "hardware Scan" page says that "This hardware scanner only works under Microsoft Windows XP or above." so the issue may not be Java.
Notice (per the quote below) that update 12 is out. I'll update to 12 and try that.
This site confirms my version of Java => Verify Java Versionrokytnji...I've been using the following site to manually update my Java...I used these instructions to update to 11 after I had to re-install Ubuntu on my test box...Verifying Java Version

Thanks for the update info dobhar!
Just installed.
To other users remember to remove old JAVA updates from Add/Remove Programs.
Also during the update uncheck the MSN toolbar!
Why do all these guys want to load up toolbars!![]()
Man, I just got jre11 figured out and now they wanna bust my chops and delete 11 (which took a while to get right) and do it all again for #12. It's hell keeping up with the Joneses. Anyhows dohbar, I run 8.04, not 8.10. The files are located a bit different for each distro. So thanks.
Edit: yeah dohbar, I got partway through 12's install when I realized those instructions were for 8.10. Already made the jreur12 folder root so it was a pain to delete.

Not sure I follow roky
I was just mentioning that I pointed out the issue to D-A-L (the admin).
Apologies if my sense of humor failed yet again.
This is the second time today I've had to remind myself not to try and be funny.
The idea of the DAL scan (now in its second renovation) was to allow a forum specific tool to help us expedite members issues.
Most members we speak to have no idea of a Device Manager etc.
Anyway it would be great of this worked under Linux as well but again the majority of people that will benefit from such a tool will be running Windows.
Again sorry about my sense (or lack of) humor.![]()
Dude, I was just tickled pink about finding a new app in Linux that works like Everest or your scan. I was Bragging. I have always liked your sense of humor. We gotta quit staying up all night. Must be getting sensitive in our old age.Not sure I follow roky

I think it would be neat if the scan worked in Linux. But I make compromises at times running it. Doesn't hurt my feelers any though. You just keep doing what you do and don't pay attention to the scruffy biker behind the curtain.
Hell, I already offended another member with my Video Post Of The Matrix on Windows XP. I must be slipping.
