Re: Suggestion
i got my card new off ebay
about 16 quid, bnib, retails at 30
-
Always good to look for a bargain, was that the 8400.
-
First question from me: do you know the card will work?
-
yeh the 8400, i was quite pleased with the price
k9, what?????
-
I was just asking whether you know it would work. The encoding might be chipped or something, you can't be sure it will work if you bought it off ebay.

58% buy the item featured on this page:
PNY GeForce 8400 GS PCI-E 256MB Verto Graphics Card
£24.00
Is this the card Paul if it is then in my opinion the 7900 is the better card for two reasons the 7900 was 512mb card and was one of the top of the middle of the 7 series cards the only drawback is that it is Direct X9 and not Direct X10 as your new one. whereas the 8400 would be a good card if you were upgrading from an on board one with shared memory, I could be wrong but that is how I understand it.
-
umm, mine is an XFX one not PNY, but same chipset. Yeh, 256mb, but my onboard shared Radeon X1200 was appauling, the old 7600 was onboard shared tho :S
yeh, apparently the 8400 is the cheapest DX10 one
i guess i'll live with it till xmas or sommin

i know this is an old post, but i just had the tell someone what ive done
when i upgraded my mobo, it had an onboard 8200 with HDMI, so I sold my brother my 8400GS because it didnt seem much different to the 8200.
This was a month ago, but I've finally bought a new card
XFX geforce 8500GT 512mb, which will run in SLI mode with my onboard 8200

ahhh its amazing
and quiet than the 8400gs
and it only cost me about £25 off ebay
-
Well done Paul hope you have many happy hours with it and a bargin as well, good old Ebay.

thanks

its nice having a proper card again, boosted performance
cos im not using onboard atm, (i decided the card is good enough i dont need to use 8200 in sli) theres a noticeable performance boost
