    Arrow Trying out Linux Today

Just installed OpenSuse 10.3 KDE x86 operating system on my Panasonic CF-48 , P4 1.6ghz, 512 mb RAM, 100 gig HD. Did this after roaching the hardrive Using Windows Xp Pro updater to sp2. The download froze up the previuos hardrive a couple months back. The issue was a hardware problem not a download problem. Couldn't save O/S or data from old hardrive and Panasonic wouldn't supply a new imbedded copy of windows to get me up and running again cuz the laptop is too old. So far so good as I'm connected to the internet right now with this O/S. It pretty much configured me up to my router automatically. Still lost so far on running apps and funtions. Heck I didn't even figure out yet how to access cdrom to eject cd's yet. Had to eject boot cd by rebooting and quickly open the bay before operating system opened. Well just after figuring out how to work windows I figure I'll just have to learn a new way of thinking. Its got me pretty nervous right now and I ordered a Open Suse 8.1 for Dummies book to help me out on how to run this system. At least I'm hooked up to the internet and if I have any issues the wife got Vista on her Desktop, And I got Windows Xp on the Amrel. So I got plenty backup for solving issues. Hopefully this will be fun instead of frustrating. As some other members on this forum say, Carpe Diem, And its a good day when you learn something. We'll see if an old dog can learn some new tricks.

Well I'mm running KillDisk as I post this with the Amrel laptop running windows. Can't get the sound to work. Support is flaky at best. Have to run to many commands to run simple tasks. Don't like it. Will try Ubuntu after removing Suse.
