Re: Has the white flag been raised?

It depends what mood you are in if you have had a busy say and need to relax perhaps some mood music or Enya or want cheering up some Bluegrass. The whole idea of building up a library of music is so that you can pick and chose rather like going to the book library and wanting to read something romantic or a crime thriller you have a big choice. If you gave a good sound card and good speakers it is the same as listening to a Hi- Fi system only as your music is on a hard disc it is easier to use Media Player and make up your own play list rather than get out a load of CD's and have to fiddle about. So you can choose one track from one CD and a couple from another etc

Ah yes, so how many do you listen to now, that you listened to 30 years ago? Why don't you save the space for music you will actually listen to...
I'm laughing at that, because I often wanted to ask ipodders the same question! What is the point of an instant massive music library? A collection (SNOB ALERT!) should be something that grows and changes with you over a lifetime.
I haven't listened to any of my records since my turntable went weird on me - the same day I saw Keanu Reeves in CONSTANTINE; I always wondered if that was just coincidence. I have plans (but not the money) to transfer the treasures to CD. When I sort through them I expect I will find some forgotten favourites of the past, and a few embarrassments as well.
Not that there aren't a few potential embarrassments in the CD collection already! Bobby Goldsboro's Greatest Hits springs to mind...

ADDED - Sort of on this topic: 'racetrack memory' will boost storage capacity by up to 100 times.

I have stuff that (apart from classical) goes back to the 1930's/40's pop especially big band and swing, which I play quite often. My wife complains that I play some of the music too loud and drowns out the TV in the front room ( especially Freddie Mercury and Queen) I listen to much of it quite often as I can do that writing to D-A-L and generally surfing the net. I am not keen on Ear buds or phones the cable gets in the way especially as my job as a handyman in an office block means I am usually doing manual work and the wires get in the way.

I have 624.3 hrs of play time and have I have to admit have made bad mistake's and wish I hadn't bought them and never get played like some of the Rap & Hip hop but most see the light of day at some time. But I must admit are Electronic, Film Sound Tracks, Rock Anthems, Big Band and Swing, Classical, Country & Western, Bluegrass, Folk, New Age, Motown, well most genre, sorry if I am boring you

Yes had a look at that one and some of the others on Youtube John Williams is a great composer. Some of the other soundtracks I especially like are from Chariots of Fire and the Harry Potter films.

You could never bore me... sorry... fell asleep

    Just joking

Please tell me that the 624.3 hours of listening to music isn't all over one year.

Most of those Bluegrass, Folk, New Age etc... i have never heard of Before my time, right? oOH, apart from Queen. I like those songs.

That youtube clip. Reminded me of Tomb raider. Lara Croft summed up in one!

Hi K_9 I think you have misunderstood in my music library I have 624.3 hours of music to be able to choose from, it is held on my my H hard drive and access the the library via Windows Media Player which is set up to rip CD's and send the rip straight to that drive. When i wish to play some music Media player automaticly searches my H drive for the music want.

I do not sit down and try to play the whole library at one sitting as you can make up a play list and just say I want to play an hours worth of music and the Media player will play what you have selected and then stop. You can play music and do something else say emailing or visiting D-A-L or surfing the web by miniumising Media Player and then clicking on something else what you want to do, so you still hear the music and get on with other work and hear the music all at the same time.

Ah yes, i got it wrong again I know all about doing that... infact, most people do.

I'm not new to the whole multi-tasking world. I can play my music selection (even if i don't use it that much) Like now... la la la... and speak to all you guys on DAL. Such fun and less time wasted!

With Vista i like the duo processer. Where i can be doing one thing on one website, whilst also having another page up, playing as usual, (most likely youtube) in a smaller screen Such technology...
