Re: not my lucky day today!!
I am thanks
it is a bit messed up at the moment, because im only 17, I cant go on shifts so im not with one specific person, i'm with all different people.
It is good in a way because im getting a feel for the place all over whereas if i was on a shift, i would be based in one area with one person (or group of people)
Moneys not that good at the moment, another reason why shifts would be better!

Stick with it, mike, moving around among people will give you a broader knowledge of the operation and that can only be to your advantage. Until you discover the secret laboratory, anyhow. You might have to flee the country and change your appearance after that.
-
I couldnt agree with you more about it giving me a broader knowledge, if im at the cold end, i am told what thickness the glass needs to be and allsorts of other things like pattern repeat, squareness, stress and compression and a few others. At the hot end, i am shown how to actually alter things to control the glass within specification.
Already i know roughly was causes the common faults in glass, how to change things accordingly, what routine checks need to be done and how to do them and i have done a full QC on a piece of glass
-
Delicate work, hope it all turns out how you want it to! Who knows, you could become the best glass maker in the world...
-
I'm renting a house now that's about 70 years old, and you can see the ripples in the window glass. I'd never seen it before and at first I thought my eyes were going weird!
-
Ripples? I'd think i was going wierd too
My house is 200 years old, a big old victorian one but still no ripples in the glass... Are yours the ones with patterns over them?
-
I have a couple of doors that have big glass panels. Like stained glass windows, except they're not stained. If you follow me.
It's the outside windows that have ripples. They're not obvious at first glance, but there is distortion if you move from side to side.
-
I'm surprised people notice these things
Maybe i will notice in a few years time if we have the same problem.
Ah, maybe it's because you have constant sun in Australia and it's melted the glass.
This sounds like a job for Mike!
-
I expect Mike could tell you why the glass has ripples in it
as he is learning all about glass at Pilkingtons.
-
Pilkingtons? I've heard of that, good place! Good attitude to work too!
