Sorry (again) for the late reply bootneck, but the computer i normally use DAL on has blocked it. So now i can only use DAL of a weekeend Not my computer though, so i'm helpless, and the system admin won't unblock it*
I love dogs, yet i tried REALLY hard to figure out how you realised. Still can't understand by the way
How did you know?
I'm sure your collies are all gorgeous. What are their names?
I have an English Springer Spaniel called Patch. He means the world to me...i don't know what i would do withut him

Hi K9 our collies are Brandy, Laddy and Jessy. I guess you liked dogs as you called yourself K9. and I guess that your normal PC is your home one and I guess it has parental control. I would guess that your Mum & Dad have blocked you going on to chat lines because they are worried about bad guys who get on them, a reminder of the safety rules DO NOT : give your real name or your adress, AND NEVER AGREE TO MEET ANYONE, YOU MEET ON CHAT LINES. There are some realy bad guys out there and it is not worth taking the risk. Sorry to be a bore but it realy is important that you keep safe.
I am an old git 63 years old a ex Royal marine
retired fighter and have 2 grownup married children. My wife and I have as I have said 3 border collies we run as agility dogs, you know they jump fences go through tunnels etc, the only one that still does it is Jessy. Laddy is to old and has athritus in his spine, and Brandy has a problem with her left front leg so they have retired from agility. Sarah is an agility trainer for Southern Border Collie which is a dog club here in the UK.

Mostly true about the control on the computer, except it's not actually a home computer...in fact, i don't even have a computer at home, that's why i rely so much upon the school not blocking DAL
I'm not a computer whizz though so when all else fails, i go to the library. Not likely to get angry...i rarely get angry
I find it amazing how so many people can take for grantee the home entertainment systems, yet not even realise what they actually have
Aon't worry, you're not a bore
I can completely see where your coming from about the chat rooms and the bad people...
In fact, my school even gives us lessons about internet safety.
Not a bad job they've done though. I've been planning on teaching a lesson at a primary school about internet safety with a few other people, so your advice is not the first i've heard.
Thanks for watching out though and caring
I'd love it if my springer was all energetic like your dogs, but he's perfect as he is, so i love him all the more
I do take him on LONG walks and can sometimes be gone for hours with him
He will swim through lakes and round up geese (like a collie does with sheep) but he can't be around other dogs as he has not been brought up to socially mix with them

If only the Birmingham council would enclose some fields where people could go with their dogs, if they have trouble being friendly with other breeds.
I suppose it comes back to the owners of the dog, not training them around other breeds...yet still, it is a good idea that i'm sure many people all over the country would benefit from, if they have the troubles.

Hi K9, I am so glad that they do give advice on Internet safety at your school and that you did not take offence at me reminding you of the golden rules. Where I work now is the IT department for all the schools in Kent we have 620 schools that we look after from the primary schools to the Secondary and Grammar Schools. We have primary schools 5 to 11 year old and Secondary Schools 11 to 18 year old the same for Grammar Schools. Grammar schools only take children who have passed an exam called The 11+ in other words the brightest children. My job there is rather like Willy's at Bart Simpsons school (one of my favorite TV programs) I look after the building and all the contractors who come to work there and do all the jobs no one else wants to do.
From what you said you do not have a PC at home I imagined that you did as you are really quite good at it so don't put yourself down. Many of the young people here do not have PC's at home ether but schools lend them a laptop if it is required for homework but that does vary from school to school.
My dogs also love the water I have to keep them away from the rivers and Lakes in the winter as it is difficult to get them dry especially Brandy as she has a very thick coat and is very difficult to get dry Jessy is short haired and does not like the cold and has a coat when it is cold or wet and Laddie is in between but not as thick coated as Brandy. We have just had Bonfire night where we let off lots of fireworks on 5th November. It celebrates the catching of a man called Guy Fawkes who tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament in the 16th century but he got got caught before he could do it, anyway my dogs don't like the bangs and whooshes unfortunately people seem to take all month to let off fireworks so the dogs get quite worried.
The weather has got quite cold here as we are at the end of autumn (fall) and we have had some heavy frosts and the temperature has dipped down to
0 deg f at night so the central heating has been on. I will stop now as I have to feed three hungry dogs their dinner and they seem to know that it is dinner time and wont leave me alone till I feed them.:shaun

Yes i know about grammar schools, i was going to take my 11+ exam, but as you had mentioned with the parental control things, i couldn't
My mom thought i would become too snooty (no offence to the kids at your grammar school) So now i'm just at an ordinary state school...I'm still smart but sometimes i do wonder whether or not the change to the school of a more interlectual type would have changed me in a bad /good way.
What do you think about the people at the grammar school where you work?
My school is very stingey by the way
We are not allowed to use laptops in school because of the "radiation" I know it is bad for you but still, there was no need to sell the complete stack of 70+ laptops. We are only allowed to use them if we have broken our arms or something stupid like that, and even when we are getting bored of listening to the teachers yak on, we cannot use the inernet as the system admin (computer technicians) have blocked it

You get a good education at an ordinary school it is up to you whether you take advantage of it. When I left school you could walk out of one job and walk to the workplace next door and get another, that no longer applies as employers want people with qualifications.
If you are not academic but good at practical things you can take exams called GVNQ and NVQ some you can get while you are at school and some you need to go to college. My son went to college from secondary school and took his exams there and now he is a engineering manager for the BBC
. But it is up to you whether you learn at school and do your best or you muck about. If you want to get a good job after school and or college the decision is yours, and that is having a grown up attitude. To be honest girls tend to be more grown up at 14 than the boys who tend to act like 11 year old
. All you can do is to do your best.
Unfortunately teachers are human beings there are very good teachers who enthuse their students and there are ones who do not but they are all trying to pass on their knowledge to the young people who they are teaching but some do it better than others, and it must be soul destroying to be taking a class of students who do not want to learn, put your self in their place in front of 30 students who are badly behaved it must be very intimating. By the way it is a good job that this PC has a spell check because my spelling is very bad
.
Just do your best at everything you do and no one can complain,
and that will make your Mum very proud of you. Sorry to be so boring it's my age

Sorry for the almost a week gap, but it has been hard to find a decent competer of which DAL is not blocked. I doubt i'll be using the innternet again until the next weekend, but that's just how life goes
We have this system in our school, where as soon as you start, there is a small test/ exam, where it catagorises you as to which learning style you work best with. I started in year 7 as a visual learner, where i learnt best by drawing and making things (actually doing something instead of writing), but now i have changed to an academic person. These learning styles don't separate you from others, it just helps you with examinations, if you are already aware of how you learn best...Saving all the tedious stuff if you really don't want to learn in a particular way.
I took my GCSE for French 2 years early at the foundation level (in year 9), i was there for every lesson and worked the hell out of the paper i was using
I love school, and now i can see why some people say it is the happiest time in your life...I completely agree. Anyway, i got a C in my foundation as that was the highest we were able to achieve (I presume you already know that) so i was really happy
Unfortunately, many of the people who managed a C, were too expectant at home...most of them were bought really expensive gifts as if to say "well done kid, work even harder and we will give you an even bigger bribe"

I sometimes feel sorry for their parents

I don't exepect anything from anyone, especially not gifts. As Christmas is coming up, i don't write wish lists for presents...if things cant be afforded, i save up my money and buy it myself. It saves a lot of trouble with the cash
I really support the way my school works, but sometimes i really feel that it's a shame not many schools have this system
Also, i'm gald that your such a caring person, you have really good advice and i appreciate it
Remember: Age is just a number, it means nothing to the person you really are.
