    Lightbulb Your Feedback On D-a-l

    Hi All,

We are once again looking at how we can improve the site for everyone and would be very interested to know what you like, what you don't like and what you feel could be improved.

Please do contribute to this thread and don't be afraid to mention anything you feel will help us make the service even more useful.

I've already posted a link to the Professional Cheerleader Blog - is that not enough? I mean, come on, good advice on computers plus fabulous looking women...
Seriously, though, I think the site is pretty damn good as it is.
Is (ahem) finance becoming an issue? Are you considering the idea of a membership fee?

    Thanks for the comments

In terms of charging this is not currently an option as the foundations of this site are built on free, helpful advice. We have no plans to charge for the support here, it's about time something stayed free in this world!

We do finance the running costs currently with Ads which will remain to pay the bills

phew. i can't afford any form of membership fees. still a student lol!

the site's great as it is, like Paul said. members are friendly and all. sad though that there's alot of crawlers and not members.

i think that more skins would be cool though. just for fun you know?

    the forum is great. lol.

I agree with that, there are a lot of people who read the forum but don't register. More ideas to get people joining in would be great.

well, limiting the forum to only members would probably help, but then again less people might come and view the forum. maybe you can limit the amount of posts a non-member can view?

as in, each thread, a non-member can only view the first few posts. so they'll know if the problem they're facing is the same or not, and if they wish to know, join?

    hope i make sense.

Thanks for the input. That does make sense yes and it has been considered in the past. Two things I don't like about the idea though are:

1> If you restrict the amount of info a non-member can view you also restrict the search engine spiders. If the search engine spiders get blocked from crawling all of the thread then we would lose many visitors who come here from searches in say Google.

2> I personally get very frustrated when I need some information but have to register to get it. In any case if I do then have to resgiter I rarely visit the site again anyway because I have what I need and resgitering is just something I do to get what I need.

We need ideas which encourage people to return and register because they want to, not because they have to.

As I said Thank you for your feedback so far I appreciate all your comments on this

i was just about to suggest the D-A-L news subscription or something, when i checked my mail and saw that you're one step ahead of me! lol.

to further the d-a-l newsletter, you can maybe increase the categories? like... WinXP news, WinVista news, hardware news, off topic tech news and such? so that members can subscribe you know?

and well, it'll definitely be alot easier to manage if you have a team/group of people scouring the net for those news as well. lol.

edit: another idea! *your id*@d-a-l.com mail service! lol!!

I like the site and have been passing the name off onto people I can't help. I have been messing up computers learning the hardway till I found this site a few years back. Had to start a new user because all the info I had before is gone. Really helpful site and glad I finally got back on it. Only problem I am having is where do I start a post at? I have an issue with my laptop and reading through all the threads, I still haven't come across my problem.
    Thanks

    Hi LantzInc,

The way to start a new post is something we are currently reviewing so that we can make this easier. At present you need to click into the relevant area to your question, for example "Windows XP" then locate the "New Thread" button toward the top left of the screen under the main menu. This will allow you to create a new question (Thread)

    I hope this helps.
