    Question Post your knowledge

What background does everyone have with computers and networking? Even if you are relatively new to the computer world, post here what your background is, from networking to home PC's.

    Here's a start:

-24 years computer exp., starting with the Apple II and Commodore 64 (No comments about my age ).
-Dell certified system expert for destops and portables (working on servers and storage now).
-Advanced tech support for Bellsouth DSL.
-Currently working for Navy Marine Corps Intranet, maintaining over 2100 systems for the local Marine base.
-Waiting to take A+ and MCSE certification exams (when I get off my lazy butt to take them ).

    What about you?

Started with BBC computer in the 80's moving onto an Amiga 500 then 1200. First PC was a 386 with 30Mb Hard disk and Windows 3.1 ! So I guess 8 ish years computer experience.

Messed around with most computer related stuff, setup home network, built numerous PC's and fixed way to many mates/family PC's. Pretty sound knowledge of Win 98/2000/XP and tons of other software titles which Ive had to use at some point over the years.

I guess bit of an all rounder I've also looked after Company Web Sites, basic programming, Microsoft Exchange, NT and SQL servers and backup. Started D-A-L.com as a way of sharing everyones knowledge and helping those who are not so computer literate. I have very limited knowledge of my car for instance but I use a few really good forums to help out when things go wrong so this site is giving back some knowledge from what myself and our members know.

Would also like to use this opportunity to say MASSIVE thanks to the Head Techs here who are doing a brilliant job and also those members who are putting effort in to help others on the forum The site is growing quite considerably on a daily basis now, so considerably that since the Arcade was installed we had to move the site to a new web server! However.... 10,000 members is still the first goal and so heres your link to tell your friends, family and colleagues http://www.d-a-l.com/pass/tell.php

First computer I got four years ago which was a Windows 95, started from there with no knowledge.

Got my first computer with the internet last year and in this one year I've learnt everything I know about Internet Security and Web Design.

In total I've had three computers, two Windows 95's and my current Windows XP. I have used Windows 3.1, 98, Me and 2000 but never owned them.

I don't have any qualifications but my aim is to get some .

Learnt XHTML and some CSS and am beginning to learn Visual Basic.

Spent my childhood on the BBC, Commodore 16, Commodore 64 and Amstrad 128 (wow, a disk drive!).

First PC was a Pentium 75 in around 1992 I guess. Fitted a modem and some extra memory and caught the bug for building my own systems. Started Future Systems (Sussex) as a little spare-time money spinner. It never spun much money though! Kept re-investing in more stock - speculate to accumulate and all that! Set up my basic web site and would've loved to have left my job and started up Future Systems full-time but didn't quite have the bottle to make the jump. That was a few years ago. Still build systems in my spare time. Got lots of all-round experience from that. Have teamed up with D-A-L now and again in the past.

IT support at work. No qualifications - all hands-on experience over 7 years in the office. NT/2000 servers, Win98/NT/2000/XP desktops and laptops, SQL, Exchange, IIS. Pretty nifty in Access as well.

Been considering an MCSE in Windows 2003 Server / Exchange 2003 but haven't got the motivation to keep reading!

Been farting around with computers since the spectrum era.

I've been previously working in software support for a few years and now managing IT for a small company and covering various hardware/software installations & support. Have a few college qualifications and most recently taking CCNA.

I wouldn't say I was an expert - more like a proficient end user really. All self taught - the internet is your friend when you need to find solutions

Nicely said HappyBeaver. If you don't want to learn and you don't help yourself, you won't get anywhere.
