Can you help me please? I'm a US Government laptop and I'm lost.

I went looking for that story on Yahoo but now I can't find it. In short, the US Census Department admitted it had lost 1000+ laptops in the last five years. I think the figure was 1300-1400, so it averages out to one a week or thereabouts.
There are similar stories here in Australia but I haven't seen any figures recently.
Must be a lot of "pre-owned" laptops (ho ho) getting sold down at the local!

You do wonder, don't you? Are these people careless with their machines because it's 'just government equpiment' or are they plain bloody careless?
