Hi guys,
Thought I'd let you all know how I feel that I've been completely mis-sold broadband over the phone this week ..... so you can all watch out for it.
I had an unsolicited call from an Indian call centre guy at home on Monday. He said he was from Bulldog. I'd obviously heard of Bulldog, made famous for being the first 8Mb broadband provider in the UK, so I knew what he was going to try and sell me and I thought that there was a slim chance that it may be of interest .... so I let him read out his scripted sales pitch.
The long and short of it is that he reckoned he could sell me 8Mbps broadband for £9.75/month plus £10.50/month for my basic BT line rental. At the moment, I'm paying the basic line rental and about £16 a month for BT Broadband Basic at 2Mbps. For the way that I use the Internet, the jump from 2Mb to 8Mb won't make much difference to me but, coupled with a 30% cost saving, it seemed like a good deal. I agreed but ONLY if:
1. I didn't have to subscribe to any additional phone service. I hardly use my phone line for voice calls so their £12/month unlimited calls deal was no use to me. He agreed that that would be left off and my TOTAL bill would be £20.25 per month.
2. By agreeing in principle over the phone, I wouldn't actually be initiating an order and getting my line transferred from BT until I'd received the T&Cs and confirmed the order. The sales guy told me that I definitely would not be having my order processed until I'd sent them back the Direct Debit instructions that he was going to send me.
So, later that afternoon, I received my order confirmation for £32.25 per month. WHAT ???!!! He had included the £12/month unlimited calls despite me making it REALLY clear that I didn't want that. They've failed on point 1 above. So I emailed Bulldog Customer Services on Monday evening. I asked them for a revised order and a new Direct Debit instruction.
It's now Thursday afternoon and I've had no reply. Not only that, but I've now received another email telling me that my phone line is being transferred from BT to Bulldog in 14 days. So that's point number 2 that the sales guy appears to have lied about - they're going to move me from BT before I've even agreed to it.
I've phoned their "Customer Services" number, which ended up going through to Technical Support. I didn't know that so I've explained the whole problem to them only for the person at the other end to say "This is technical support, phone back, press 4, press 1 and ask to speak to a customer services manager because I agree that you've been mis-sold the service".
So I phoned back, pressed 4, pressed 1, spoke to someone who said they were one of the Sales Team Managers (still haven't found Customer Services yet!) and she didn't seem that bothered that I had been completely mis-sold it. So I guess it's company policy and they do it all the time.
Anyway, she transferred me finally to someone in Customer Services who amended my order and said she'd send me a new confirmation. They've got until Tuesday next week and then I'll be complaining to Watchdog and the telecoms ombudsman! What a load of hassle just to save a few quid a month - that's why I very rarely switch providers for any of my household stuff!
they were on watch dog a few months ago, and there customer survice is aparently non existant!!

Pain in the arse aren't they ISPs. I've been with BT for about 3 years now, went from Dial Up to 512K to 1MB to 2MB. Every switch has been smooth and I've never had one disconnection or connection problem at all. Never has my internet connection let me down, something which I'm very pleased about. I won' be switching from BT anytime soon.
