The google OS rumor has come and gone. but i have been watching google for about a year now, and this extract from the economist has intreeged me
The global network - Google has been buying a large amount of cable over the past few years. (i thaught they were buying bulk for it to be cheaper for their new offices) They have employed a lot of people to negotiate prices on cableing. Google have network experts working for them...... so this could be theasable. Could this global network be free internet? Could this global network be network to allow google hardware to enter our homes?Google is already working on a massive and global computing grid. Eventually, says Mr Saffo, “they're trying to build the machine that will pass the Turing test”—in other words, an artificial intelligence that can pass as a human in written conversations. Wisely or not, Google wants to be a new sort of deus ex machina.
AI - Nothing is impossible. Think of all the experts employed by google. perhaps this global network could be a sort of free internet (they have plans for a free wi-fi in a few US cities allready) under the stipulation that they can store a couple of megs of data on everyones computer (think of the ammount of computers in the world...). or could the AI just be an even more sofisticated search, potentially saving hours of searching time by further refineing their normal search, and even integrateing their other services?
what are your views on google's alleged plans?
Sounds a bit Gates-ish to me...
