i'm having second thaughts, i might go for 512mb, what would run faster,
    -1 512mb DDR400 or...
    -1 512mb DDR400 AND 1 256meg DDR 333

Well, technically, 1 x 512Mb module on its own would run faster, in terms of memory speed, because all your memory will be running at 400MHz. However, you'll probably get better performance overall by leaving your existing 333MHz module in there as well and letting the new stuff clock down to 333MHz (or just buy a new 333MHz module if that's cheaper) - the overall gain of having more memory will often outweigh the slight performance loss of having it running a little slower.

It depends on how much RAM you need really. You can check how much memory your system is using by running the maximum number of applications that you would have open at any one time (including any games, which are memory hungry) and then go into Task Manager (Ctrl + Alt + Del) and check the counters on the Performance tab. Then add a bit onto those figures to allow for newer programs in the future requiring more memory than what you're running now.

Don't forget to check out my auctions for new RAM on the D-A-L Trader to see if I can do you a better deal !!
