That's OK Mike - no problem. It was worth me creating an auction on the D-A-L Trader site anyway - I'm trying to help to build up some content on the Trader and it only took a few minutes

about upgrades, i an FINALY going to upgrade my ram in 2-3 weeks (just waiting for the last £100 to go into my halifax savings account from my natwest and then it is going down to £20) anyway.... im going for an extra 256mb DDR 3200 but is all that type the same or do i need a specific one to my sytem? the reason i am asking, is i took a 64mb ram card out of our old 95 system and the notches didnt line up (surprise surprise!!!!) so, if i get any DDR 3200, will it fit?
    (DDR 3200 is what crucial came up with when i entered my sytem make+ model, along with other ones, FULL SPECS: DDR PC3200 • CL=3 • UNBUFFERED • NON-ECC • DDR400 • 2.6V • 32Meg x 64)

If your system has PC3200 RAM in it already, then any new PC3200 will fit with no problems

ok, thanks.... its just the man in the shop said he would have to look at it and measure up to see what fitted even though i gave him the details, said it would cost £15 to measure+fit and £35 for the ram!!!!!

Sounds to me like he just wanted to make sure that it definitely needed PC3200 DDR RAM rather than the newer DDR2 RAM, which is the same size but has a different pin arrangement so you can't plug DDR2 into a DDR slot and vice versa.

how will i know if it is PC3200?? i have just tried to find out but can't i am pretty sure it is DDR so if it is, will any DDR do or will i have to get a specific speed?

EDIT: i've tried DAL hardwae scan and belarc

If it's PC2100 (DDR 266MHz), PC2700 (DDR 333MHz) or PC3200 (DDR 400MHz) in your PC now, then, as far as I know, new PC3200 modules will fit the same slots and, if you're running any older slower DDR RAM, then the new stuff will "clock down" to run at the slowest common speed for compatibility.

also if your doing it yourself I think you have to put the biggest stick of RAM in the first slot

i was thinking about getting another 256mb so i don't think size will matter... but if i get 512, i will take that into account, thanks

so, if i put DDR 400 and mine is only DDR 333 then the 400 will run at 333 speed unless i replace them both??
