    What computer?

i need help with what computer to buy with £399. I know it isn't much but i went through some crazy things to get some of that money.
I seriously need a decent computer, without a big price tag, preferably lower than £500.
    Thanks for the help!

http://www.savastore.com/productinfo...=5&rstrat=3169 you could look here or if you know what you want the PC to do you could also try your local small computer shop and ask how much a system with a certain spec will cost to be built, you could also visit the websites of say dell or mesh or dare i say Tiny and see what they have to offer

Do you need a monitor and a copy of Windows or do you already have those? They're the expensive bits.

For £299, I could do you an Intel Celeron 2.67GHz PC with 512Mb RAM, 120Gb hard disk and a CD-ReWriter / DVD combo drive. Windows XP SP2 Home Edition is an extra £74.99, delivery is £10. I can do 17" TFT ("flat panel") monitors from just £145 or 17" normal "fat" monitors for something more like £75.

If you're interested, I've can give you the full details. There are lots of options with these systems. They are all brand new stock, fully guaranteed (the TFT screens even have a 3-year warranty).

Alternatively, if you have an idea of what specification you want or what exactly you'll be using the system for, I'll be happy to give you a quote. It may be that 512Mb RAM is more than you need or the 120Gb hard disk is bigger than you'll ever use, in which case, I could probably do you something even cheaper

I've got a selection of older systems that I'm refurbishing at the moment but, if you've got £400 available to you, I'd definitely recommend getting a new system as it will definitely last you longer.

Incidentally, the systems I'm quoting for use the latest Intel socket 775 processors (not all manufacturers are offering this yet), which means there's a good, simple upgrade path if you want to make it even faster it in the future

I don't think I can do that much on laptops at the moment but I could have a look. Have you got a spec or price in mind DJDK?

DJDK, (and this might also be of interest to you LuigiMario5000),

It's difficult to do a refurbished laptop at an acceptable price with 512Mb RAM and a 60Gb hard disk as I can't easily get hold of systems that wouldn't require expensive upgrades. I'd probably be looking at around £450 and the base system would be a Pentium III.

However, how does this sound for a brand new laptop? Intel P4 Celeron 2.2GHz, 14" XGA screen, DVD-ROM, 512Mb RAM, 30Gb hard disk, Windows XP Home Edition (FREE but properly licenced!), battery, charger, 1yr warranty - £459 + delivery. Or the same spec with a 60Gb hard disk for £539 + delivery or with a 120Gb USB external hard drive for £549+ delivery. Please note that these are quality brand-name systems but with custom configurations that you won't find anywhere else! I can have one of these systems configured and ready for despatch this week if required.

P.S. I've just bought one of these laptops for myself so you can be sure that I am very confident about their reliability and quality
