The Worst I have every done is Launch a minature Ballisting Missle. I made a model rocket with a 1lb smokeless gunpowder warhead. Had 5 stages! I watched it go up, up, up, up, oops! It arched over towards a neighborhood that I thought it wouldnt hit. The long and the short if it is it landed about 100 ft from a house in the field I had launched from but it dug a 5ft deep hole that was about 8ft wide. I found the hole a week later since I didnt want to be around when the police showed up...(btw, statute of limitations ahs already passed!)

Wow, any particular reason? That's possibly the first (and only) time I have ever seen the words "minature Ballisting Missle" and "oops!" in the same paragraph!!

I got my hands on "F" and "E" sized rocket motors and wanted something that could utilize them. I started with 3 different designs, and all were too light for what I was building. A friend said it looked like a ballistic Missile I was building...and that got me thinking! Wouldnt be neat to make a ballistic missle...but it couldnt be one without a warhead...So I devised an explosive device that would mount in the nose. Of course I was Stephen's age when I did this...meaning I was smarter than had sense. The rating of the engines (remember 5 stages) was about 30lbs to 500 feet, I had 1lb so I figured I could get about 2000 feet...BAD calculation! An observer guessed it when to about 6 to 7000 feet (he had 40x binocs!) The rocket didnt have a parachute like most since I was trying to do ground penetration (limit the amount of damage the warhead could do) I only know that the upper level winds I didnt account for and that was where the OOPs came in. I got lucky with that won, so I switched to blowing up stainless steel soda canisters after that.

That sounds like a good time! The 12 year old in me wants to go blow something up now. I used to get in so much troubel with Fire Works.

I liked Fireworks until I learned about the bigger stuff...I would put Firework rockets on paper airplanes, then wood ones, then finaly my plastic models (You should see an F-16 with 16 bottle rockets under the wings...It really flies!) The best flight I ever had was when I built a Panavia Toronado plastic kit. I put 6 bottle rockets in each Jet Nozzle. I lit the fuse, ran and it flew about 500 ft before pieces started to fall off...then boom! I am not as much a pyro as I was then. But I know a fews things about life now!
