How can a bank let a 16 year old get overdrawn when I specifically stated when I opened the a/c that he should not be allowed?

Well what do you expect all they are interested in is making money, along similar lines, just look at a credit card statement if you use your limit 1 month and then wait until the payment has been taken from your account but the same day use your card (say late at night, after they will have taken the payment) they add over-limit charges
something like this
card limit £1000 spent £1000
payment due date payment taken date
1st of month 28th of month
on the next statement they say payment was received on the 28th but you used your card at 23.55 on the 28th now they will have taken payment earlier in the day but your use of the card will appear on the statement before the payment they receive so they add an over-limit fee. it has happened to me but i have always got the fee refunded.
Like i said earlier it is all about money and they don't care

Is that legal? Giving credit to someone under the age of 18, seek legal advice

Bank account vs. Credit Card example...Still works. Our bank will let you deposit in the morning but credit at midnight so that a check that comes in after noon will bounce and you get dinged...Perfectly Legal here in the states. Now, Bank One was recently dinged for accepting the mailed bill payment then waiting 2 to 3 days past the due date to credit the account causing late charges, over limit fees and some other fee that I cant remember (Wife had one of these cards...We figure they charged us about $1800 USD over the 3 years she had it in late fees and received a settlement check of $38.56 from the Class Action lawsuit)

if you specificly stated no overdrafts then they should have listen.

Why is it the banks fault ? This should have been the final step, the account holder should be more responsible.

Of course its the banks fault, I never wanted to go in debt. THey said I can't so therefore there fault.
-
But dont you have the responsibility to know what is in your bank account?
-
I think you missed the point.
You should have been more responsible and not reckless.
You should have know how much money you have and should not have attempted to purchase something that you did not have the funds for.

theres one problem, it may not hold in a court of law, as it is only spoken word, its it were in the terms then sue them, take it all the way. Banks are supposed to open an account on mutual agreements.
