Stephen, just take it from me that I have quite a lot of experience marketing web sites and I can tell you that using mod_rewrite in that way is not going to make much difference to how many pages Google indexes of this forum. Forums are not easy things to get going as you are probably finding and spending your time rewriting URLs to be HTML rather than PHP is not very productive. I'm no saying it won't help at all but it's a very minor contribution to the overall indexing of your site

I don't think it's a neccassary thing to do, that's why I would rather spend my time doing more productive things.

well just a comment my seotalk.co.uk has no posts yet and hardly any members but using mod_rewrite soon gained me a pr3 I get a few guests already on wdt but mainly to see how to make a .htaccess file because im top for that in msn. still dont know why you wont do it every little thing just makes your site better than the rest. when my new design is coded I am going to do every little thing I can! But I will gain advertising when my other site is coded and up from that

Getting a PR3 is VERY easy Stephen, in fact getting a PR 5 or 6 is very easy, and you can do it without using mod_rewrite beleive me

ok if getting a pr6 is easy make a business people pay loads for domains like that. Also never said just mod_rewrite your making out im saying you can only get good ranking with it! I just said it helps!

What examples do you have of people paying loads for a domain with a Page Rank of 6? It's really not difficult, buy a domain, get it indexed by Google, pay for 3 or 4 links from high PR directories and wait a few months - theres your PR6 page.

Forget PR anyway, you should be asking yourself what the goal of your site is? If it's making money for example then PR is irrelevant if you have not got a site which is designed to sell.
