i have spent the last hour trawling the net for a possible solution to this problem i have tried google, yahoo, microsoft and various help forums and nothing............... zilch

well thank you for looking i wrote down what i get exactly if i try to open page on desktop i get 'excel cannot access copy of 'FINANCES'.xls the document may be read only or encrypted.
if i try to delete i got 'cannot access FINANCES access is denied make sure disk is not full or write protected or file in use by other programs

If your object is deletion I found these tools will delete anything I've had trouble with. The first one being more "powerful" in my opinion.

well i thought i would give ur programs a try and what can i say the first one got rid of them which is ideal as i still have the file in documents to use still ur a star ty i had this on there for nearly a year and finnaly someone has sorted it i made a donation to the site all ready money well spent and not the last either. thank you very much.
