I updated my Macbook Pro 15'', and then under the Apple picture on the top left of my screen, the Apple site said I should now see a tab for "App Store" under "Software Update". When I checked after the update- I still had no App Store tab. And I need that to but iLife.

Unfortunately we don't have any regular Mac users. I suggest that you try Apple - Support - Discussions - Forum Home or contact apple.
