My Bad Fred. I made a typo. Been Busy on my end. I should have typed.

Code:

sudo apt-get update

then enter and watch a lot of lines scroll through terminal

then close terminal

Go to Synaptic Package Manager and open it up. Click on reload button first.

Use the search box and type in firefox

look for the firefox 3.5.2 in the listings

check the box for installing. Then hit apply. this will install the latest firefox in your system. I didn't know you were on Ubuntu. You might be running Gnome Desktop. Kubuntu is the one that uses KDE.

rokytnji firefox 3.5 is downloaded, but it is showing 3.0. what is my problem? Did the steps like you showed. Fred

It is because your launcher for firefox twobits is pointing to your older firefox install. Are you launching from Menu or Icon? In Menu under Application>Network there should be 2 Firefox Launchers. The 3.5 one will be Blue and called Shiretoko.

Edit: should be Applications>Internet. I was on my AntiX laptop when I posted where menu location was.

Just realized I am juggling 2 users here. One with Mint and one with Ubuntu. That is why I am a bit out of sorts.

I do not know who twobits is, but this used to be my thread.
Here are the developments in my "case" so far:
* I have been able to download the session manager. It has essentially the same problem as the regular browser history: If you accidentally delete something, whether it was the computer's fault or yours, you can never get it back.
* My Linux Mint is acting up: ACPI bug or something. It cannot find its gzip magic numbers. I have tried to get help from linux mint forum on this, but no success so far. (I have entered acpi=off in GRUB, but it just resulted in IO ACIP having a problem instead.)
* This is why I have not updated Firefox to version 3.5.3 yet.

I have re-read your post from 20Sep09 and notice that you have Shiroko. Is this something I need to install, or does it come automatically with version 3.5.3?
And: Are you saying I want to have history set to zero? That is the opposite of what I want. I wish I could have a history editor that is more like Word. The history manager add-on was a step in that direction, since I could select several addresses at once to delete, but, unlike "Word" (or even Wordpad or Notepad), it had no "undo" option. In case you meant something else, please correct me.

No. I was saying you might have History Preferences set to that by mistake is all.

Due to the problems with the gzip numbers I have had to reinstall linux; meaning: I have lost all history AND bookmarks (could I have saved them? probably, but I did not.) I am simply going to change my browsing style from now on: Instead of relying on the system to save my links, I am going to back them up manually at the end of each session. It will take time, but save all the time it takes to worry about it.
