I installed pclos 2007. It is working. I had to nuke the HD. Would not install over Mandriva. I had pclos 2009.1& it was working, but it call for a up date & a reboot. The PC would not reboot it locked up. Some thing in the up date was not right. Fred

On Grub boot menu Fred. You should have kernel choices in the menu list. You can boot to a previous kernel prior to the update. You can then do a little searching on what is locking up on the updated Kernel image.

I had pclos 2007 working for a day. I down loaded some things & rebooted. Now I have a pc that will not boot, locks up. The same old thing. I tried MM 2009 & it would stop at udev the same as all of the others. I have tried all of the other that stop at udev on a second pc. Both pc did the same thing with all of the os I tried. Fred

rokytnji I installed Mepis 8.0. It is working for now. When it comes time to up date will I get into the same problem with the pc locking up? Will hope for the best for now. Thanks Fred

Since all computer hardware is different from computer to computer. I can't answer that question with any authority Fred. Take it as it comes. I run the miniature version of Mepis 8 and update about once a week manually using apt-get in Terminal. No problems for the past year and I am also running Testing on another netbook. Which is pickier than a desktop when it comes to hardware. No problems there either. Mepis is one of the least known, under rated (IMO) Linux Distros that just works right out of the box. I have been running Mepis since 6.5 and it has never dissappointed me. Just run with it Fred and if you get any more Lockups, maybe it is time to buy a can of air and give your computer a blow dry cleaning.

My Gear is single core processors (except for my IBM M57 Desktop) with low specs mostly and I run modern Linux operating systems with no problems. But some distros won't work with my gear, and PCLOS and Mandriva were 2 of them. So I had to scout around till I found the right combo. I do know Mepis developers are very careful with their upgrades. And the rest is taken care of By Debian, which Mepis is based on. Your Version Of Mepis is basically a spinoff of Debian Lenny with a lot of Bells and whistles added like codecs.
Use the Mepis forums in the bookmarked section of your Iceweasel Browser. Bunch of nice guys there willing to help out. Introduce yourself there and explain how you came to end up using Mepis and explain about your PCLOS upgrade troubles. They will listen and give ya some good feedback. I used a different media brand, 2 different burning programs. All loadto same place & stop. Mepis 8.0 is working. I will use it for now. Thanks for all the help. Fred

I did the 2007 reinstall & it up dated & locked up on reboot. The 2009 disks that I burned worked on my wifes PC. Her PC is just about the same as the one I use. The insides are the same one is 6000+ the other is a5200+. This is why I don't know where to go. Thanks Fred.

I am learning that PC architecture has a lot to do on why certain Linux Distros won't boot up on certain Motherboards twobits. One of the things to look out for when downloadig a Linux Distro is to see what motherboard architecture that Distro supports.

i386 works on all Mother Boards, 32bit and 64 bit. (Except for older Mac Computers)
PPC is only for the older Mac and Apple Computers.
x86_64 is for 64 bit motherboards. Won't work on 32 bit.
I686 Intel P6 (microarchitecture), as first used in the Pentium Pro and later adapted into the Pentium M and Core architectures

rokytnji in mepis I did a up date & now I can not get into change or add or remove. When I install mepis it was there. I do not know what it called or where to go to pull it up. It would be where you set up to hook up internet & so on. Thanks Fred
