Hahahahaha! You're so right! I am just so loss with it right now. To make things worse is that I actually feel that I would like it as long as I can get the hang of it lol...

It took me awhile to get the hang of it Kaister and I didn't get a perfect working install on the first day, let alone the first week. Most users of computers get their rigs with the O/S preinstalled. No configuring needed. But when you have to install Windows even on a blank box. You have to scrounge and dig to get a decent working install going. Same for Linux, except that Linux comes with all the drivers in the kernel for a multitude of computers on 1 cd. You might try looking for a DVD version of Ubuntu, because the DVD versions come with a lot more stuff packed into the install. Just a suggestion.

Ultimate Edition 1.9?
Ultimate Edition 1.9 is built based off Ubuntu Hardy Heron (daily build), by hand, it is w/o a doubt gorgeous. I am releasing both a 32 bit & a 64 Bit edition. Ultimate Edition 1.9 unlike Ultimate Edition 1.8 is loaded to the hilt with themes, wallpapers, icon sets, gdm login screens, and Usplashes. If you have a 64 bit processor I highly recommend the 64 bit edition. I can not stress how important that it is to torrent this release. We do have mirrors in route to try and take the load off, please, please torrent after you get it.
This release was built from scratch using Ubuntu Hardy Heron LTS with all the goodies pre-added, you have came to love with previous editions & a few new ones.
This is a special release it includes KDE, XFCE, Enlightment, Gnome & the latest hardy based kernel (2.6.24-21). I included a few packages I have written; Ultamatix in case you want additional software and a Ultimate Edition Theme pack (roughly 500MB of themes, gdms, icons, wallpapers etc.). I highly suggest you take the time to register on our forum there is a wealth of information to be obtained there. I suppose I should also point out I have made an online F.A.Q. more elaborate then can be found through the websites. Updating pages takes way too much of my time writing in html / css after all I am 1 MAHN
Just download it already, you won’t be sorry. The Screenshots speak for it all
Enjoy!!!,

Hi rokytnji just looked at the screen shots looks great, in your post to Kaistar you mentioned that there was a DVD which is all singing and dancing where does one get that from, also the PC I would put it on is partisioned drive with XP 250gig Ubuntu 240 gig and would take off Ubuntu would that enough to run the OS as it looks better beter than Vista is it as heavy on resources
There are some issues with the new Xorg and Nvidia in Hardy.
You can check out some fixes I have at my blog here;
Ubuntu 4 You
I would also recommend upgrading to the new 8.10 version as it has solved the Nvidia driver problem for many users who had the same problem in Hardy.
Once you start using Ubuntu or any other Linux distro you will start to notice that you use it more then Windows and it becomes easier to use.
And the free software and lack of viruses are a huge plus! :-)

I don't know as much about linux as windows but I do know that if you know what you are doing that you can edit the grub configuration file & remove the reference to the kernel that has the bad drivers & just try another upgrade after all you do still have 1 good working kernel right? Just copy the configuration file in case you mess it up, remove or comment out all of the new ones, and don't touch the old ones & you should be fine. Are you upgrading to 8.10?
I find it funny (or sad, I can't decide which) that a few of those screen shots of that ultimate edition use that ugly background that Vista likes to use as the default for a new account. It looked interesting so maybe I'll try it.

Here is the way to edit the grub menu to remove old or corrupted kernels that appear in the boot menu;
Ubuntu 4 You: Remove Old Kernels In Ubuntu
There is another way to boot up into a previous kernel or a rescue kernel.
During the boot up process press the ESC key a few times.
Now your grub loader screen will appear and you can choose which version you want to boot from.
But if it's a new install you will only have the one kernel to boot from and if it's damaged you won't be able to boot into your system.
That is why I urge users to keep at least one older version of the kernel on their system just in case something goes wrong with the newer one.

Which post are you talking about? We got a million of them. Are you talking about this DVD release.Ultimate Edition Ultimate Edition 1.9
If so , living in England I would pick this mirror : European Mirror
As far as your hard drives and the rest of your gear. I run Ubuntu quite faster than XP on a 1.6 ghz single core, 512 mb sdram, 100 gig hardrive , Pansonic Toughbook. So yeah, you got lots of room. 30 gig is alot for Ubuntu and it will play just fine with a minimum of an 8 gig hardrive. So no worries dude.
P.S. Sitting here,in the chill of the house, sipping coffee laced with Honey and Rum, I find it fascinating how much traffic this section of the forum has gotten lately. Right up there with Highjack this Log section. Wow.![]()
Wow... That's a lot of great links you guys have there. I've a question though, I got a new external hard disk that's 500GB large, is it possible for me to install Ubuntu there? I'm afraid the GRUB loader might be corrupted since it's external and I don't bring it with me when I travel...
Speaking of Links Kaister, Here is one that will answer a lot of questions concerning installing Ubuntu to a external Hardrive. All my installs are internal hard drive installs, so I am not a expert on external hard drive installs.How to install Linux to an External USB hard disk | USB Pen Drive Linux
