    linux ibunti

    Hi there

i have been advised to get a realtech 8169 card for my new computer which has windows vista. as my problem is i have been supplied with a linux ibuntu dvd to work from home - but when i place it in, i am unable to acces the internet (it states no ip address) - if i change my realtech card this will work apparently.

do you know if this is correct and is it easy to install.. my other concern is as the computer is only 2 mths it is under guarantee, if i change the realtech card this will then be void.

please help if you can and so sorry to waffle on

Sorry you had to wait so long for a reply sharon. Don't replace your card.

Are you taking a class that requires you to run Ubuntu at home for Homework?

Hook up your Computer to a Land Line 1st when running a Ubuntu Live Cd to connect.

What model # computer specs etc.. Not enough info.

After booting up live Cd go to Applications>Accessories>Terminal and open Terminal

    Copy and paste this

    lspci

    Hit enter

Copy and paste what the terminal readout says in your next post.
