Thumbs up Erased Ubuntu 8.04 for Mepis 6.06

Well, I got tired of trying to configure my printer to Ubuntu. Their compatability site considered it a paper weight. Also was having problems with video streams like You Tube Videos.Followed instructions for installing Adode Flash 9 and 10 from Ubuntu Forums with no sucess. The Ubuntu Plugin and Addons were inadequate at best,so,I ran KillDisk and got rid of it. I had spent some considerable time trying to get the Gnome Desktop to behave and install certain software to no avail. Internet connection and email was easily done in Ubuntu. It also ran the DVD,CD,and USB sticks OK.So it had its good points. Just figured I would try something different. So now Simply Mepis 6.06 is now installed and it so far has gone somewhat smoothly. Instead of the Gnome Desktop I am running a KDE style now. For starters my post about Ubuntu showing the 1st post in a thread in the right hand of the screen has now become a non issue as The older Firefox seems to handle it.Went to You Tube and I didn't have to select a video viewer from a list. It showed the video just as Windows XP would have. So far so good. I have 2 DVD drives. 1 is ROM and the other is RW. It mounted the RW as the prime unit. Liked that Read a Data CD with no problems and with no issues on opening and closing tray.Still gotta figure out how to configure KMAIL. Might see about using thunderbird instead. So far Mepis has more options than Ubuntu.Well , I just figured I would post this thread for any frustated Ubuntu 8.04 users on this iste to let them know their options. The Mepis O/S can be used with pentium 2 processor,248mb RAM but I would recommend 512 MB to be faster, And I forgot how much hardrive space it takes up but during install I noticed it was wayyyyy considerably lower than Ubuntu. So far I'm a Happy camper. Ya never know though till I spend some more time on this O/S and learn it. It seems to work a little more like Windows does than Ubuntu . Happy Trails from Texas ya all.

I have already downloaded and burned Mepis 7.0 and Antix 7.0 Bootneck. I had installed Mepis 6.5 before I knew about Mepis 7.0. I had the 6.5 disk already from a purchase I had made awhile ago and decided to use it. Still learning KDE and stuff but I am liking the synaptic manager and apt get functions on the O/S. Having a HE** of a time trying to get Kontact Email configured right so using Synaptic I downloaded thunderbird Email instead since its easier to configure and its working as good as outlook express so far. Still trying to figure out why a music cd I burned on Windows XP shows up on Amorok player as blank media. I haven't tried a store bought one on the player yet and I haven't tried to play DVD's yet either. Internet and email whats working good for me so far. Leaving my printer hooked up to laptop for time being till I sort out media stuff first. Good luck Bootneck playing with these O/S. I'm having fun with it as my foot heals. My wife is straying pi**ed at me for all the time I'm spending on my Desktop lately but being a cripple right now and her controlling the TV remote drives me back to the desktop on crutches.
