I have just installed PcLinuxOS 2007 on an old pc (256Mb Ram) (60Gb hdd).
It is excellent and I'd reccemend it to anyone.

I had many attempts at installing Ubuntu but there were so many problems - - I have not given up on installing Ubuntu yet though.

The main question I have is this; I know that hirens boot cds can be used to recover forgotten passwords in Windows -- it does not seem to accomodate recoving lost passwords in Linux though.

Does anyone know if there is a tool / boot cd that can recover lost passwords in Linux.

I presume what I am asking is not in breach of forum rules as I am only using tools for personal use and nothing illegal.

I hope someone can assist me in this.

I think you are correct with the above statement, it may be for personal use on your own system but there is no way to determine this.

Hopefully, without breaking any rules I'll say that I am not aware of any software to recover passwords but as ROOT you do have the power to reset passwords of other users/files.
