im not 100% sure what your problem is lol ..

what version of linux are you using? ubunu? mepis?

If you have Mepis, click the logo in the bottom-left corner (i dont know what it is called but its the equivalent of the windows start menu) and click 'Run Command'

Type in 'mnetwork' (without quotes) and enter your root password
then change the 'Interface Configuration Mode' to 'Automatic (networkmanager)'

Goto Run Command again and type 'knetworkmanager' (without quotes) and i think the rest is done pretty much automatically..

Just click the knetworkmanager icon in the tray and select your network from the list if it has appeared automatically, otherwise, im not sure what to do next :P

EDIT: by the way, those are instructions for on a 32-bit Simply Mepis OS .. It may or may not work on other versions of linux but youll have to ask somebody else about that =]

    Enjoy!
