Have you made any changes since when it did work?

Any new hardware or software? Did you upgrade to OS X? Did it ever work with OS X?

Cypress appears to be a chip maker whose chips are used in external hard drives.

Can you get a more precise ID on this device?

I think I unplugged it without ejecting. since then it hasn't worked. There was some upgrades and it did work with OS X before.
When I plug it into my PC, it identifies it as Cypress AT2LP RC42. on the device itself, it just says
Mobile HDD FC no other numbers that i can find.

The cypress at2lp rc42 is the electronics - the chip that translates hard drive talk to USB talk.

Either the hard drive has died or the drivers or firmware were lost.

To find either of the above you would need to ID that drive/enclosure. It has no labels on it? The back or bottom or... ?

Did it come with an installation CD? Or a manual? Do you have a Windows XP PC that you can try it on?

    Hi,

I suspect that you've corrupted the drivers located within the hard drive itself. It's in effect the only way you can damage a drive in a mac. They're basically backward and forward compatible in terms of operating systems, from OS9 to OS 10.4. Hook up the drive and go into applications->utilities->drive setup (disk utility) and look for the drive. hopefully You should be able to see it. Then if you're using OS X you could try repairing disk permissions

    Hi !
The problem is on the enclosure itself. You can easily prove that by trying to connect it to other computers (Mac, Linux, WinXP) on any of them it will do exactly the same - it will not work. I had also this problem and took me 2 weeks to find a solution. This involved using a small utility to reprogram the firmware in the box. Fortuantelly the data on the disk itsel remained intact.
