    Question question mark blinking?

My iMac froze up the other day (no cursor even). I pressed the reset button and I got a blue screen with a flashing question mark. Nothing I do changes it. I don't want to reload the software because I'll lose a lot of valuable information. Can anyone tell me a A.) what went wrong and B.) How can I fix it.

I do not know MAC's but google brings up a bit to browse:

    http://groups.google.com/groups?q=ma...k+&qt_s=Search

It appears at a glance that this is MAC's way of saying it cannot detect your hard drive.

When you get a question mark blinking on start-up it means it cannot find the system folder. To remedy this you have to start-up using the Mac OS disk. (This is normally due to corrupt system files or bad blocks in the system start-up.)

To do this simply insert the disk, re-boot the Mac and hold down the C key.
When the Mac starts up, open this disc and run the repair utility.

This should solve the problem and all you need to do is re-start.

I would suggest you get Norton Disk Doctor which is a more comprehensive problem solving program which can repair the majority of corrupt files.
